The SAC design required the use of a graphics GUI-based operating environment. Bob explored the initial release of Windows on the PC, and also looked at the Macintosh and Atari operating systems. Deciding that none of them would meet his desired performance requirements at the time, he opted to write his own DOS-based GUI completely in Assembly Language. This required him to communicate directly with video card hardware, as he could not obtain third party driver support for his project without large scale funding, so the GUI that he developed was designed in black an white mode for a wider range of video card compatibility.
